- Component
- ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE; VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:THROTTLE:THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR (TPS)
- Problem
- Mack Trucks, Inc. (Mack) is recalling certain 2024-2026 Mack MD vehicles. When the Controller Area Network (CAN) communications are interrupted, the throttle signal from the electro mobility control unit may retain the last known throttle setting, and the engine will not return to idle as intended. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 124, "Accelerator Control Systems."
- Risk
- An engine that does not return to idle quickly enough can cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy
- Dealers will update the control unit software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 14, 2025. Owners may contact Mack's customer service at 1-800-866-1177. Mack's number for this recall is SC0481.
What this recall means for you
On certain 2024 to 2026 Mack MD electric trucks, an interruption in the vehicle's communication network (CAN) can cause the throttle signal from the electro mobility control unit to hold the last throttle setting. The engine then may not return to idle as intended, and the vehicle does not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 124 for accelerator control systems.
An engine that does not return to idle quickly enough can cause a loss of vehicle control, which increases the risk of a crash.
