What this recall means for you
A software error in the camera control unit may delay or deactivate the rearview camera image, so the image may not display as intended. Without a working rear camera, the driver has reduced rear visibility, which increases the risk of a crash. These vehicles also fail to meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 111, which covers rear visibility.
If you own one of these vehicles, Volkswagen will have dealers update the camera control unit software free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 3, 2025. Until the update is done, be extra careful when backing up and check your surroundings directly, not only the camera.
To confirm whether your vehicle is affected, check your VIN for open recalls, or contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298 and refer to recall 91SB.
