Ford Escape Recall 24V850: Passenger Airbag May Not Deploy Properly or Shed Debris

NHTSA campaign 24V850, reported November 8, 2024, 15 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The passenger-side instrument panel cover on certain Ford Escape vehicles may have been manufactured incorrectly. In a crash, this can prevent the front passenger airbag from deploying as designed, and the airbag cover may break apart and throw fragments into the cabin. Either outcome raises the risk of injury to the front passenger, and the affected vehicles do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 208 for occupant crash protection.

The repair is free. Ford dealers will replace the passenger-side instrument panel cover at no charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on February 18, 2025. If you have questions, you can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and reference recall 24C38.

To check whether your vehicle has any open recalls, enter your VIN on the NHTSA recall lookup site or on Ford's website. Schedule the repair with an authorized Ford dealer as soon as possible.
