BMW X1 Recall 24V829: Weak Body Pillar Could Fail to Protect Occupants in a Crash

NHTSA campaign 24V829, reported November 4, 2024, 3,312 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some vehicles were built with left or right B-pillar reinforcement plates that may not have enough structural strength. The B-pillar is the vertical support between the front and rear doors that helps hold the roof in place and protect occupants during a crash.

If the pillar is weaker than designed, it may not adequately protect passengers in a collision, which increases the risk of injury. Dealers will inspect the left-side and right-side B-pillars and, if affected, replace the B-pillar free of charge. Owners were notified by letter starting May 7, 2025, and can contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417. You can also check your VIN for open recalls to see whether your vehicle is included.
