Chevrolet Bolt EV Recall 24V812: Bolt EV Battery May Catch Fire When Fully Charged

NHTSA campaign 24V812, reported October 31, 2024, 107 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2020-2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV and 2022 Bolt EUV vehicles that were previously repaired under an earlier battery recall may still have a problem. The advanced diagnostic software installed in that repair may not have taken effect, so the high-voltage battery could catch fire when charged to full or nearly full capacity. A battery fire increases the risk of injury.

Until the software is fixed, set the Target Charge Level feature in your vehicle to limit charging to 90 percent. Charge the vehicle more often, avoid draining the battery down to 70 miles of remaining range, park outside after charging, and do not charge the vehicle indoors overnight.

Authorized dealers will reinstall the advanced diagnostic software free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 3, 2024. You can also contact the Bolt EV Concierge Team at 1-833-382-4389, and check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
