- Problem
- Volvo Trucks North America (Volvo Trucks) is recalling certain 2020-2025 VN, VAH, VHD and VNRE trucks, equipped with Bendix EC80 Advanced Electronic Control Units (ECU). Electrical noise and low signal to the power line carrier may cause the ECU to incorrectly process commands or stop working.
- Risk
- Safety systems that depend on the ECU (Automatic Traction Control, ABS, Electronic Stability Control, Active Cruise Control, and Collison Mitigation System) may have diminished or lost functionality, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy
- Dealers will reprogram the ECU software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 9, 2024. Owners may contact Volvo Trucks customer service at 1-800-528-6586. Volvo Truck's number for this recall is RVXX2409.

What this recall means for you
Some Volvo trucks built from 2020 to 2021 may have an electronic control unit (ECU) that can receive electrical noise or a weak signal. This can cause the ECU to process commands incorrectly or stop working altogether.
If the ECU fails, safety systems that rely on it, including anti-lock braking, electronic stability control, automatic traction control, active cruise control, and collision mitigation, may have reduced or lost function. That raises the risk of a crash.
The remedy is a free software reprogramming of the ECU at an authorized dealer. Owners were mailed notification letters on December 9, 2024. You can also contact Volvo Trucks customer service at 1-800-528-6586 (recall number RVXX2409) and check your vehicle identification number for open recalls.
