Mercedes-Benz S 580 Recall 24V704: Engine may overheat or stall, risking crash or fire

NHTSA campaign 24V704, reported September 20, 2024, 27,190 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2021-2023 Mercedes-Benz S580 and Mercedes-Maybach S580 vehicles may have an engine control unit software problem. If the engine's Camtronic system suffers a mechanical failure, the software may cause the engine to overheat or stall.

An engine stall can increase the risk of a crash, and an engine that overheats can increase the risk of a fire. Owners should take this seriously and not ignore the notice when it arrives.

The remedy is free: an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will update the engine control unit software at no cost. Owner notification letters were mailed on November 15, 2024, with additional letters to be mailed on January 10, 2025, and February 21, 2025. You can also contact Mercedes-Benz Customer Service at 1-877-496-3691 (MBUSA recall number 2024100007), and check your vehicle's VIN for open recalls.
