GMC Sierra 1500 Recall 24V674: Brake fluid warning light may not work, raising crash risk

NHTSA campaign 24V674, reported September 12, 2024, 449,671 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The electronic brake control module software in these vehicles may fail to turn on the brake fluid low warning light when brake fluid is lost. Without that warning, a driver may keep driving with low brake fluid, which can reduce braking performance and increase the risk of a crash. The vehicles also do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 135 for light vehicle brake systems.

General Motors will update the electronic brake control module software, free of charge, either over the air or at an authorized dealer. Owner notification letters were mailed October 25, 2024. If you have questions, contact GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782, Chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020, or Cadillac at 1-800-458-8006.

Check your vehicle's VIN for open recalls on the NHTSA website, and until the update is installed, check your brake fluid level regularly and watch for any signs of brake trouble.
