Mercedes-Benz G 550 Recall 24V659: Rear Door May Not Latch, Risking an Open Door While Driving

NHTSA campaign 24V659, reported September 9, 2024, 134 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The right-side rear door latch in these vehicles can have components that prevent the door from latching or opening properly. The rear door may look closed even when the latch is not fully engaged, so it can open while you are driving.

A door that opens while the vehicle is moving raises the risk of injury and a crash. Damaged latch parts can also keep the rear door from being opened from inside the vehicle, which increases the risk of injury.

Mercedes-Benz will replace the right-side rear door latches at no cost at an authorized dealer. Owner notification letters were mailed October 11, 2024. If you have questions, contact Mercedes-Benz USA customer service at 1-800-367-6372. Vehicles that were previously repaired under recall 21V-353 still need the new remedy, and you can check your VIN for open recalls.
