Nova Bus LFS Recall 24V648: Bus Dash May Hide Speed and Warnings, Risking Crashes

What this recall means for you

Certain 2023 and 2024 Nova Bus LFS and LFS Artic buses have defective instrument panel firmware. The instrument panel may fail to display the speedometer or may show warning lights incorrectly, and the firmware may also cause a loss of drive power. The buses therefore do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 101 for controls and displays.

A dashboard that does not show speed or critical warning lights can leave the driver unaware of hazards or vehicle problems, and a sudden loss of drive power can leave the bus stopped in traffic. Both conditions increase the risk of a crash.

Nova will update the instrument panel firmware at no cost to owners. Owner notification letters were mailed December 18, 2024. Owners can contact Nova customer service at 1-800-350-6682 and reference recall number CR5636.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: INSTRUMENT CLUSTER/PANEL
Problem
Nova Bus (US) Inc. (Nova) is recalling certain 2023 LFS Artic and 2023-2024 LFS vehicles. The instrument panel may fail to display the speedometer or incorrectly display warning lights, due to defective firmware. In addition, the firmware may result in a loss of drive power.  As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 101, "Control and Displays."
Risk
An instrument panel that fails to show critical safety information, such as the speedometer or warning lights, can increase the risk of a crash. A loss of drive power also increases the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Novas Bus will update the instrument panel firmware, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 18, 2024. Owners may contact Nova customer service at 1-800-350-6682. Nova's number for this recall is CR5636.
