Ford Transit Recall 24V542: Ford Transit Power Steering May Fail, Raising Crash Risk

NHTSA campaign 24V542, reported July 19, 2024, 1,902 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2023 and 2024 Ford Transit vans equipped with the Transit Trail package may have corrosion at the electronic power assist steering (EPAS) ground eyelet joint. Over time, this corrosion can cause the power steering assist to be lost, so the steering becomes noticeably harder to turn.

A loss of power steering assist can increase the risk of a crash, since it becomes more difficult to steer the vehicle, especially at low speeds or during emergency maneuvers.

If you own an affected vehicle, contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 or take it to an authorized Ford dealer. Dealers will install a new EPAS ground pigtail kit free of charge. Ford mailed owner notification letters on January 10, 2025. You can also check your VIN for open recalls on NHTSA or Ford's website.
