Chevrolet Bolt EV Recall 24V481: Bolt EV battery may fail to detect faults, risking fire

NHTSA campaign 24V481, reported June 27, 2024, 72 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some 2020-2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV and 2022 Bolt EUV vehicles had earlier battery recall work (21V-650), but the advanced diagnostic software may have been installed incorrectly. As a result, the system may fail to detect defective battery modules, which could lead to a battery fire and an increased risk of injury.

Until the repair is done, owners should set the Target Charge Level feature to limit charging to 90%, charge the vehicle more often, avoid draining the battery to 70 miles of range remaining, park outside after charging, and do not charge the vehicle indoors overnight. Owner notification letters were mailed August 1, 2024.

Dealers will reinstall the advanced diagnostic software free of charge. You can contact the Bolt EV Concierge Team at 1-833-382-4389, and check your VIN for open recalls to confirm whether your vehicle is affected.
