Spartan Fire Gladiator Recall 24V453: Delayed Air Brake Engagement Can Lengthen Stopping Distance

NHTSA campaign 24V453, reported June 18, 2024, 17 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain Spartan Fire Gladiator and Metro Star fire trucks may have a service brake that takes longer than expected to engage. This means the vehicle may not meet the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 121, which governs air brake systems.

A delayed brake engagement can extend the distance needed to stop the vehicle, which increases the risk of a crash. Owners should take this recall seriously and have their vehicle checked promptly.

Dealers will inspect the vehicle and, as needed, replace the fittings and plumbing or the quick release valve, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 5, 2024. To ask questions, contact Spartan Fire customer service at 1-517-543-6400 and reference recall number 24009. You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for any open recalls.
