Ford F-150 Recall 24V443: Reverse lights may fail, raising crash risk

NHTSA campaign 24V443, reported June 14, 2024, 159 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2021 Ford F-150 trucks equipped with the Onboard Scales feature may have had both reverse lights disabled by an over-the-air software update to the body control module. The problem can occur without warning and leaves the vehicle without working reverse lights.

With the reverse lights out, drivers and pedestrians behind the truck cannot tell it is backing up, which increases the risk of a crash. If your truck is affected, be especially careful when reversing, using mirrors, cameras, and spotters until the repair is done.

An authorized Ford dealer will update the body control module software at no cost to you. Owner notification letters were mailed June 26, 2024. You can check whether your VIN has an open recall on the NHTSA website or contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 (Ford recall number 24S38).
