Toyota Crown Recall 24V442: Camera Images May Fail to Display, Raising Crash Risk

NHTSA campaign 24V442, reported June 14, 2024, 13,077 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some cameras on these vehicles have camera cases that may separate because of insufficient laser welding. This can let water leak in and short-circuit the camera. The rearview and front view camera images may then fail to appear on the display or appear distorted.

A rearview camera that does not show an image reduces the driver's view behind the vehicle, which can increase the risk of a crash, particularly when backing up. Owners may notice the display going blank or showing a distorted picture.

The repair is free. Dealers will inspect the rearview and front view cameras and replace them as necessary at no charge. Owner letters were mailed August 9, 2024, and you can contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Check your VIN for open recalls to see whether your vehicle is affected.
