Altec Aerial Device Recall 24V439: Exterior lights may fail to illuminate, raising crash risk

NHTSA campaign 24V439, reported June 13, 2024, 3,425 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain aerial devices and service trucks built on a Freightliner M2 Plus chassis may have an overloaded lighting wire harness. This can prevent the vehicle's exterior lights from turning on, so the vehicle does not meet federal lighting requirements (FMVSS 108).

When lights do not illuminate, other drivers may have a harder time seeing the vehicle, which increases the risk of a crash. Owners should be alert to any exterior lighting that does not work as expected.

The repair is free. Authorized dealers will rework the lighting wire harness and update the trailer module as needed. Owner notification letters were mailed August 8, 2024. To confirm whether your vehicle is affected, check your VIN for open recalls, or contact Altec customer service at 1-877-462-5832 (recall numbers CSN-3161 and CSN-3170).
