BMW X5 Recall 24V345: Seat Belt Sensor May Fail to Warn Unbelted Front Passengers

NHTSA campaign 24V345, reported May 15, 2024, 3,256 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain BMW XM, X5, X6, X7, and Alpina XB7 vehicles may have a seat belt system that incorrectly detects that front passengers are buckled. As a result, the seat belt warning light may not come on for an unbelted occupant, and the airbag system may not deploy as intended in a crash. Both problems can raise the risk of injury in a collision.

The repair is free. An authorized BMW dealer will inspect the front seat lower seat belts and replace them as needed. Owners were notified by mail beginning July 12, 2024. You can check whether your vehicle is affected by entering your VIN for open recalls, or contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
