Mack MD Recall 24V333: Wrong weight rating label can lead to overloading and crash risk

NHTSA campaign 24V333, reported May 14, 2024, 26 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The certification label on certain 2024-2025 Mack MD and Terrapro vehicles lists an incorrect Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR). Because the label understates or misstates how much weight the axles can carry, the vehicle can be loaded beyond its safe limits without the driver realizing it. The vehicles also do not meet federal certification requirements under 49 CFR Part 567.

An overloaded vehicle can increase the risk of a crash. Owners should not exceed the weight limits and should have the affected label replaced as soon as possible.

The remedy is free: an authorized dealer will remove and replace the label at no cost to you. Owner notification letters were mailed May 28, 2024. For questions, contact Mack customer service at 1-800-866-1177 and reference recall SC0463. You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
