- Problem
- Daimler Coaches North America (Daimler Coaches) is recalling certain 2011-2016 Setra S417 TC and 2012-2016 Setra S 407 CC vehicles equipped with a Ricon wheelchair lift. The red beacon lighting on the Threshold Warning System (TWS) may not be bright enough. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 403, "Platform Lift Systems."
- Risk
- Beacons that do not provide proper illumination may be less visible to wheelchair lift users, increasing the risk of injury.
- Remedy
- Daimler Coaches will replace the TWS kits, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 23, 2024. Owners may contact Daimler Coaches at 1-416-624-3558. Daimler Coaches number for this recall is 86.20U24286A.

What this recall means for you
The red beacon on the Threshold Warning System, which alerts wheelchair lift users to the lift's edge, may not be bright enough. Because the lighting can be hard to see, the system does not fully meet federal safety requirements for platform lifts.
If the beacon is less visible, wheelchair users may not notice the lift threshold in time, which increases the risk of injury. Owners of affected coaches should contact Daimler Coaches North America at 1-416-624-3558 and reference recall number 86.20U24286A. Owner notification letters were mailed May 23, 2024.
The remedy is free: Daimler Coaches will replace the Threshold Warning System kits at no cost. You can also check your vehicle's VIN for open recalls.
