Toyota Tacoma Recall 24V152: Rear axle shaft may separate, risking loss of control

NHTSA campaign 24V152, reported February 27, 2024, 381,199 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain rear axle shaft assemblies may separate from the axle housing. Debris can prevent the fasteners that secure the shaft from being properly tightened, so the shaft can come loose while driving.

If the axle shaft separates, the vehicle can lose stability and brake performance, which increases the risk of a crash. Owners should take this seriously and arrange service promptly.

The repair is free at an authorized Toyota dealer. The dealer will inspect the rear axle assembly, tighten the axle retaining nuts as needed, and repair or replace any damaged parts. Owners may also contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls to confirm whether your vehicle is affected.
