BMW X5 Recall 24V138: Dashboard May Separate or Air Bag May Deploy Improperly

NHTSA campaign 24V138, reported February 23, 2024, 8 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The instrument panel (dashboard) in certain vehicles may not have been manufactured properly. This can cause the air bag to deploy improperly, so it may not restrain an occupant as intended in a crash, or cause the dashboard to separate during air bag deployment and send pieces of the panel toward occupants.

Either scenario can increase the risk of injury in a crash. Owners should take this recall seriously and schedule a repair as soon as possible.

An authorized BMW dealer will replace the instrument panel free of charge. Owners who have not received a notification letter, mailed April 16, 2024, can contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417. You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
