Ford Transit Recall 24V102: Rear axle can seize, causing lock-up or driveshaft separation

NHTSA campaign 24V102, reported February 9, 2024, 113,320 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some 2023-2024 Ford Transit vehicles may have too little rear axle lubricant. Over time this can damage the rear axle tail bearing, which may seize, lock up a wheel, or allow the driveshaft to separate.

These problems can cause a loss of drive power. A separated driveshaft can also let the vehicle roll away while in park without the parking brake applied. Any of these situations can increase the risk of a crash.

Dealers will inspect the rear axle and replace the axle bearings or the axle assembly as needed, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 4, 2024. To confirm whether your vehicle is included, check your VIN for open recalls, or contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 (Ford recall number 24S05).
