Western Star 49X Recall 24V084: Front Suspension Hanger May Fail, Causing Steering Loss

NHTSA campaign 24V084, reported February 8, 2024, 49 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain Western Star 49X trucks may have a front suspension hanger with missing welds. Over time, the hanger can fail, making it difficult to steer and keep the front wheels pointed in the intended direction.

Loss of steering control and directional stability greatly increases the risk of a crash. If you drive or own one of the affected vehicles, treat this as a safety issue and do not ignore it.

Daimler Trucks North America will replace the front suspension hanger free of charge at an authorized dealer. Owner notification letters were mailed July 22, 2024. You can contact DTNA customer service at 800-745-8000 (recall FL994), and you should check your vehicle's VIN for open recalls.
