Maxi-Metal Kenworth Recall 24V032: Wiring Short Can Fail to Shut Off Power, Risking Fire

NHTSA campaign 24V032, reported January 19, 2024, 19 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2020-2023 trucks equipped with Weldon 8X16 Input-Output nodes may have a firmware defect. If a short circuit or wiring failure occurs, the node may fail to shut off an output pin, allowing electrical circuits to become overloaded.

Overloaded electrical circuits can overheat, which increases the risk of a vehicle fire. Owners were notified by mail on February 22, 2024.

The remedy is a free firmware update to the Weldon node, which Maxi-Metal will coordinate with Weldon. Owners can contact Maxi-Metal customer service at 1-418-228-6637 for more information, and should check their vehicle identification number (VIN) for any open recalls.
