Western Star 4900 Recall 24V013: Parking Brake May Delay Engaging, Allowing Truck to Roll

NHTSA campaign 24V013, reported January 10, 2024, 149 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

A defect in the inversion valve of certain 2023 Western Star 4900 and 6900 trucks may delay parking brake engagement. This means the parking brake may not apply as quickly as it should, and the vehicle could move unintentionally. The vehicles also do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 121 for air brake systems.

Unintentional movement of a parked truck can increase the risk of a crash or injury to the driver, passengers, or people nearby. Owners should take this recall seriously.

The remedy is free. Daimler Trucks North America will inspect and replace the inversion valves as necessary at no cost to you. Owner notification letters were mailed February 27, 2024. You can contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712, referencing recall FL992, and check your vehicle identification number for open recalls.
