Toyota Corolla Cross Recall 23V864: Passenger Front Air Bag May Not Deploy Properly

NHTSA campaign 23V864, reported December 20, 2023, 12,575 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some 2022-2023 Corolla Cross vehicles that were previously inspected under an earlier recall may have an instrument panel produced without the required perforation. This could prevent the front-passenger air bag from deploying properly, and the vehicles do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 208 for occupant crash protection.

An air bag that does not deploy as intended raises the risk of injury in a crash. If you own one of these vehicles, you should return it to an authorized Toyota dealer, where the instrument panel will be inspected and replaced as necessary at no cost to you. Vehicles previously inspected under the earlier recall must return for this additional inspection. Owner notification letters were mailed January 26, 2024.

You can check your VIN for open recalls and contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331 with questions about this recall, referenced by Toyota as 23TA16.
