Mercedes-Benz AMG G63 Recall 23V851: Cracked Rear Differential May Leak Oil or Fail

NHTSA campaign 23V851, reported December 15, 2023, 590 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The rear axle differential housing on certain special edition vehicles may develop cracks. This can cause oil to leak onto the road, creating a hazard for following traffic, or lead to axle failure that can cause a sudden loss of handling or drive power. Either condition can increase the risk of a crash.

Owners are advised not to drive the vehicle until the repair has been completed. Towing to an authorized dealer may be necessary. The repair is free. This recall expands and replaces an earlier recall (22V-937), and vehicles previously repaired under that recall will need the new remedy completed. Owner notification letters were mailed starting June 28, 2024, with additional phases on August 9, August 23, and September 25, 2024.

If you have one of these vehicles, contact Mercedes-Benz USA customer service at 1-800-367-6372 and schedule the repair with an authorized dealer. You can also check your VIN for open recalls on NHTSA's website.
