- Component
- BACK OVER PREVENTION: SENSING SYSTEM: CAMERA
- Problem
- Pilotcar EV INC (Pilotcar) is recalling certain 2021-2023 PC-2, PC-4, and PC-6 vehicles. The rearview camera and monitor were not installed. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 111, "Rear Visibility" and 500, "Low Speed Vehicles."
- Risk
- The absence of a rearview camera system reduces the driver's rear visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy
- Dealers will install a rearview camera and monitor, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 28, 2023. Owners may contact Pilotcar customer service at 1-239-243-8023. Pilotcar's number for this recall is PC-2023-02.
- Notes
- Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.
What this recall means for you
Some 2021-2023 Pilotcar PC-2, PC-4, and PC-6 vehicles were built without a rearview camera and monitor. Without this equipment, the driver has reduced visibility behind the vehicle, and the vehicles do not meet federal rear visibility requirements (FMVSS 111 and 500).
Reduced rear visibility increases the risk of a crash, particularly a backover collision with a person or object behind the vehicle that the driver cannot see.
Pilotcar will have dealers install a rearview camera and monitor at no cost to you. Owner notification letters were mailed December 28, 2023. If you have questions, contact Pilotcar customer service at 1-239-243-8023 and reference recall PC-2023-02. You can also check your VIN for open recalls.
