Kia Soul EV Recall 23V724: Unexpected Rolling Risk When Parked on Some EVs

NHTSA campaign 23V724, reported October 26, 2023, 6,262 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2015-2019 Kia Soul EV vehicles may have a damaged parking mechanism. With the gear shifter in Park and the parking brake not applied while the vehicle is powered on, the vehicle can move unintentionally, which raises the risk of a crash.

Kia will have dealers update the vehicle's electronic control unit software, and the remedy is free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 21, 2023. This recall expands and replaces recall 20V-389, and vehicles previously repaired under that recall will need the new remedy completed.

In the meantime, always apply the parking brake when parking. To check whether your vehicle has an open recall, look up your VIN on the NHTSA recall website or contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542, referencing recall SC287.
