New Flyer XD35 Recall 23V711: Incorrect weight labels on transit buses can allow overloading

NHTSA campaign 23V711, reported October 20, 2023, 188 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The certification labels on these New Flyer transit buses list incorrect Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) and Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) values. Because the labels state the wrong limits, the bus could be loaded beyond what it is designed to carry, and the vehicles do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 120 for wheels and rims.

An overloaded vehicle can increase the risk of a crash. Owners should be aware of this even though the defect concerns labeling rather than a failed part.

New Flyer will provide and/or install new, correct labels free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 9, 2023. You can contact New Flyer customer service at 1-800-241-2947, and you should check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
