Ford Explorer Recall 23V675: Rear Driveshaft Can Disconnect, Causing Power Loss or Rollaway

NHTSA campaign 23V675, reported October 6, 2023, 238,364 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

A rear axle horizontal mounting bolt can fracture, which may allow the driveshaft to disconnect from the vehicle. A disconnected driveshaft can cause a loss of drive power or, if the parking brake is not applied, a vehicle rollaway. Either situation can increase the risk of a crash.

Authorized Ford dealers will replace the subframe bushing and the rear axle bolt, and will inspect the rear axle cover for damage near the bolt hole, replacing it with a new cover if any damage is found. The repair is free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 19, 2024. You can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 (Ford recall number 23S55), and you can check your VIN for open recalls on the NHTSA website.
