Wabash National Van Recall 23V646: Rear Guard Too Far Forward; Crash Protection Reduced

NHTSA campaign 23V646, reported September 20, 2023, 3,711 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain dry van trailers with a rail-style lift gate were built with the rear impact guard mounted too far forward from the back of the trailer. This reduces the guard's ability to protect smaller vehicles in a rear-end collision, and the trailers do not meet the federal Rear Impact Protection standard (FMVSS 224). In a rear impact crash, the guard may not adequately protect passenger cars and light vehicles, which increases the risk of injury to their occupants.

The remedy is free. Authorized dealers will add an extension to the rear impact guard at no charge to the owner. Owner notification letters were mailed December 4, 2023. If you have not received one, or want to confirm your trailer's status, contact Wabash National customer service at 1-765-771-5404 and reference recall number B23015.

You can also check your trailer's identification number (VIN) for open recalls to confirm whether repairs are still outstanding. Schedule the repair with an authorized dealer as soon as possible.
