Spartan Fire FC-94 Recall 23V631: Parking Brake May Engage Late, Allowing Unintended Movement

NHTSA campaign 23V631, reported September 12, 2023, 660 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The inversion valve in the parking brake system of certain fire emergency vehicles may delay parking brake engagement. Because the brake may not hold right away, the vehicle could move unintentionally, and the manufacturer states the vehicle does not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 121 for air brake systems.

Unintentional movement of a parked vehicle can increase the risk of a crash or injury to people nearby, including firefighters and bystanders working around the vehicle.

The remedy is free: an authorized dealer will replace the inversion valve at no charge to the owner. Owners who have not received a notification letter, which was mailed November 2, 2023, can contact Spartan Fire customer service at 1-800-867-6478 and reference recall number 23017. You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for any open recalls.
