What this recall means for you
The occupant detection system in certain vehicles with dark premium suede seats may fail to recognize a passenger and may turn off the passenger-side front airbags. The vehicles also do not meet federal occupant crash protection requirements.
If the passenger airbags are deactivated when they should not be, they will not deploy as intended in a crash, which raises the risk of injury to a front passenger.
Dealers will update the occupant detection system software at no cost. Owners who received the notification letter mailed September 26, 2023 can contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460, referencing Hyundai recall number 249, and should check their VIN for open recalls.
