- Problem
- Kia America, Inc. (Kia) is recalling certain 2023 Sorento vehicles. The air bag warning labels on the driver and front passenger sun visors may detach. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."
- Risk
- A detached air bag warning label will not warn occupants about the risks of air bag deployment, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.
- Remedy
- Dealers will inspect and replace the driver and front passenger sun visors, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 10, 2023. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC277.
- Notes
- Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.
What this recall means for you
Some 2023 Sorento vehicles have air bag warning labels on the driver and front passenger sun visors that can come loose. Because the labels may detach, these vehicles do not fully meet federal occupant crash protection requirements.
A missing label means occupants may not be warned about the risks of air bag deployment, which increases the risk of injury in a crash. Owners who notice a loose or missing label should take it seriously and schedule a check.
Dealers will inspect the driver and front passenger sun visors and replace them as needed, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 10, 2023. You can contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542 (Kia recall number SC277), and you can check your VIN for open recalls.
