Mack Lrbe (Electric) Recall 23V514: Battery Threads May Break, Risking Short Circuit and Fire

NHTSA campaign 23V514, reported July 24, 2023, 11 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2022 and 2023 Mack LR battery electric trucks may have high-voltage battery threaded inserts (rivnut inserts) that were over-tightened during assembly. These inserts can break, which could cause an electrical short circuit inside the battery.

An electrical short circuit increases the risk of a fire. Owners should watch for warning signs and contact their dealer promptly if they have any concern about their vehicle.

Authorized Mack dealers will replace the high-voltage batteries free of charge. Owner letters were mailed November 1, 2023. For questions, contact Mack customer service at 1-800-866-1177 and reference recall SC0447. You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for any open recalls.
