Freightliner E-Cascadia Recall 23V467: Sudden Loss of Drive Power Can Increase Crash Risk

NHTSA campaign 23V467, reported July 6, 2023, 82 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2023-2024 Freightliner eCascadia trucks may have an e-axle planetary gear set that was not welded properly. This can allow the e-motor to detach from the final drive, causing a sudden loss of drive power that the driver cannot detect in advance, and the vehicle may not be able to restart.

A sudden, unexpected loss of drive power can increase the risk of a crash. Because the condition is undetectable before it happens, drivers may have no warning before losing the ability to propel the vehicle.

The repair is free. Dealers will inspect and replace the e-axle(s) as necessary at no charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 13, 2023. You can contact Daimler Truck North America customer service at 1-800-547-0712 (recall FL979), and you should check your VIN for open recalls.
