- Problem
- Polaris Industries Inc. (Polaris) is recalling certain 2020 Slingshot GT, 2021-2023 Slingshot S, Slingshot S Tech, 2020-2023 Slingshot R, Slingshot SL, and 2022-2023 Slingshot SLR vehicles updated with Ride Command Software. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."
- Risk
- The loss of the rearview camera image while in reverse can reduce the driver's rear visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy
- Dealers will update the Ride Command software. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 28, 2023. Owners may contact Polaris' customer service at 1-855-863-2284. Polaris' number for this recall is T-23-03.
- Notes
- Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.
What this recall means for you
After the vehicle is shifted out of reverse, the rearview camera image can freeze, and it may show a blank screen when reverse is selected again. This means the vehicle does not fully meet federal rear visibility requirements (FMVSS 111).
When the camera image is lost while backing up, the driver has less view of what is behind the vehicle, which raises the risk of a crash.
If you own an affected Polaris Slingshot, contact an authorized Polaris dealer to have the Ride Command software updated. The repair is free. You can also call Polaris customer service at 1-855-863-2284, and check your VIN for open recalls. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 28, 2023.
