Kia Sportage Recall 23V410: Brakes May Lose Power Assist, Increasing Stopping Distance

NHTSA campaign 23V410, reported June 7, 2023, 98,944 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

A brake booster diaphragm in certain vehicles may become misaligned, causing an internal vacuum leak. This can result in a loss of power brake assist, making the brakes harder to press and requiring a longer distance to stop.

A loss of power brake assist can extend the distance needed to stop the vehicle, which increases the risk of a crash. Owners should be especially cautious and allow extra stopping room while the issue is unresolved.

The repair is free. Dealers will inspect the brake booster and replace it if necessary at no charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 21, 2023. You can also contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542, referencing recall SC272, or check your VIN for open recalls.
