Kia Telluride Recall 23V298: Blank Dashboard Display Can Hide Warnings and Raise Crash Risk

NHTSA campaign 23V298, reported April 26, 2023, 108,936 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2023 Kia vehicles have a digital instrument cluster with a 4.2-inch LCD screen that may fail to display any information when the vehicle is started. With a blank display, critical information such as tire pressure, warning messages, and warning lights will not be shown, which increases the risk of a crash. The affected vehicles also fail to meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards 101 (Controls and Displays) and 138 (Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems).

An authorized Kia dealer will update the instrument cluster software free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 26, 2023. If you have questions, you can contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542 and refer to recall number SC270. You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.

If your dashboard goes blank when you start the car, avoid relying on it for warnings and have the vehicle inspected by a dealer as soon as possible.
