Nissan Leaf Recall 23V296: Defroster Instructions Error Can Reduce Windshield Visibility

NHTSA campaign 23V296, reported April 26, 2023, 94,343 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2013-2017 Nissan LEAF vehicles have incorrect defroster operating instructions in the Owner's Manual. Following them under specific conditions may result in reduced defroster performance, and the vehicles do not fully meet the federal windshield defrosting and defogging standard.

Reduced defroster performance can limit your view through the windshield, which increases the risk of a crash. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed May 26, 2023. Nissan will mail a free addendum with updated instructions on how to operate the defroster.

You can contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669 and reference recall R23A1. Check your VIN for any open recalls, and read the updated defroster instructions when they arrive.
