Honda CMX300 Recall 23V261: Oil Leak Can Cause Fire or Crash on Motorcycle

NHTSA campaign 23V261, reported April 12, 2023, 1,461 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

A right-side engine crankcase cover on certain motorcycles was incorrectly painted, which can cause the press-fit plug in the cover to fall out. Without the plug, engine oil can leak onto the exhaust pipe or rear tire.

Oil on the exhaust pipe creates a fire risk, and oil on the rear tire can cause loss of traction, increasing the risk of a crash and injury.

Dealers will replace the right crankcase cover free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 25, 2023. You can contact American Honda customer service at 1-800-784-1870 (Honda recall number KP2), and you should check your vehicle's VIN for open recalls.
