Great Dane Champion Recall 23V230: Wheel Hubs May Lack Lubricant, Risking Wheel Separation

NHTSA campaign 23V230, reported March 31, 2023, 562 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2023 Great Dane Champion Dry Van trailers may have too little lubricant in their wheel hubs. Over time, this can cause the hub bearings to fail.

If a hub bearing fails, the wheel hub assembly could detach from the trailer. That can cause a loss of stability and control, or leave a road hazard behind, which increases the risk of a crash. Owners should not ignore warning signs such as unusual noise or heat coming from a wheel area.

The remedy is free. Dealers will inspect the wheel hubs and add the proper amount of lubricant where needed. Owners were mailed notification letters on May 19, 2023. You can also contact Great Dane customer service at 1-877-369-3493, and check your trailer's VIN for any open recalls.
