Mercedes-Benz S 580 Recall 23V200: Water Leak Can Disable Seat Belt and Safety Systems

NHTSA campaign 23V200, reported March 24, 2023, 6 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Water can get past the bulkhead that separates the engine compartment from the passenger compartment, because the bulkhead may not have been properly sealed. The water can drain into the foot wells, where it may cause corrosion and short circuits in electrical components. This can disable safety features, including the PreSafe system that tightens seat belts and adjusts seats.

With these features disabled, the risk of injury in a crash can increase. Owners should be aware of this problem and have their vehicle checked for the recall repair.

The repair is free at an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer, where the bulkhead front wall sealing will be fixed. Owner notification letters were mailed May 12, 2023. You can contact Mercedes-Benz USA customer service at 1-800-367-6372, and you can check your VIN for open recalls.
