Audi Q4 e-tron Recall 23V189: Curtain airbag may tear in crash, reducing protection

NHTSA campaign 23V189, reported March 22, 2023, 5,224 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

During deployment, the head curtain airbag can push against the door seal, exposing a metal inlay inside the seal. That contact can tear the airbag, so in a crash it may not protect occupants as intended.

A torn curtain airbag increases the risk of injury to people in the vehicle during a collision. The vehicles also fail to meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 226 for ejection mitigation.

The repair is free. Authorized Audi dealers will install cloth tape in the driver and front passenger B-pillar area. Owner notification letters were mailed May 11, 2023. You can contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834, and you should check your VIN for any open recalls.
