Kentucky Trailer XL-12 Recall 23V186: Trailer Winch Remote May Operate Unintentionally

NHTSA campaign 23V186, reported March 20, 2023, 5 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Water can enter the wireless handheld remote used to control the winch on certain trailers. Over time this can corrode the remote's circuit board, which may cause the winch to run without the driver intending it. An unintentional winch operation raises the risk of injury.

The recall instructs owners to inspect the remote for corrosion and disable its wireless function by removing the battery pack. If corrosion or water intrusion is found when the battery pack is removed, stop using the remote and contact WARN customer service for a replacement remote at no cost. WARN will later provide a replacement water-resistant remote, also free of charge, once parts are available.

Owner notification letters were mailed May 15, 2023. Owners can contact Kentucky Trailer Manufacturing customer service at 1-502-637-2551, and should check their VIN for any open recalls.
