Ford Explorer Recall 23V069: Transmission May Fail to Park, Risking Rollaway

NHTSA campaign 23V069, reported February 10, 2023, 3,674 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2020-2022 Ford Explorer vehicles with a 2.3L engine and 10R60 automatic transmission may experience an unintentional powertrain control module (PCM) reset while the vehicle is moving. This reset can damage the park system.

A damaged park system may not shift into PARK, which can allow the vehicle to roll away. This increases the risk of injury or a crash.

Authorized Ford dealers will inspect the park system for damage and repair it as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 28, 2023. You can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and reference recall 23S05, and you can check your VIN for any open recalls.
