Newell P50 Recall 23V055: Battery Switch May Not Cut Power, Risking Shock

NHTSA campaign 23V055, reported February 7, 2023, 13 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The battery disconnect switch on certain vehicles may fail to disconnect the battery when turned to the off position. The battery can remain live even when the switch is off.

This failure increases the risk of electrical shock and injury during maintenance or repairs, since the system may still be energized when you expect it to be de-energized. Until the repair is done, avoid working on the electrical system without first confirming the battery is fully isolated.

The remedy is free: the manufacturer will remove and replace the battery disconnect switch at no cost. Owners may contact Newell customer service at 1-888-363-9355, and you can check your VIN for open recalls on NHTSA's website.
