Mercedes-Benz AMG GT53 Recall 22V938: Console May Open in a Crash, Letting Cargo Fly

NHTSA campaign 22V938, reported December 16, 2022, 11 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2019 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT 63 and AMG GT 53 vehicles have a center console that may unlatch during certain types of crashes. When this happens, the storage compartment can open, and this does not meet the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 201 for occupant protection in interior impacts.

If the console opens during a crash, unsecured items stored in it can be thrown into the cabin, which increases the risk of injury to occupants. Owners should take this recall seriously even though it only applies in crash events.

Dealers will replace the front center console storage compartment free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed February 3, 2023. You can contact Mercedes-Benz USA customer service at 1-800-367-6372, referencing recall number 2023010008, and check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for any open recalls.
