Pierce Saber Recall 22V892: Steering Tie Rods May Crack and Separate, Causing Loss of Steering

NHTSA campaign 22V892, reported December 2, 2022, 17 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The tie rod clamps on these vehicles may have been improperly heat-treated, which can cause them to crack. A cracked clamp can allow a tie rod to separate.

If a tie rod separates, the driver can suddenly lose steering control, which increases the risk of a crash. Owners should not ignore unusual steering behavior and should arrange service promptly.

Dealers will replace the tie rod clamps free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on January 26, 2023. For questions, contact Pierce Manufacturing customer service at 1-888-974-3723, referencing recall number 74B324. You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
